Spanish grammar: Prepositions with verbs of movement

Have you ever asked yourself what the difference is between “Quiero venir a España” and “Quiero ir a España”? Are you not sure when to use the verb llegar with the preposition a or de? If your answer is yes to at least one of the questions we invite you to this videotutorial where our Spanish teacher Ángeles explains the use of the prepositions (de, a, por, con and en) with the verbs of movement ir, venir and llegar.

We hope that the video class helps you to understand which prepositions go with each verb and how the meaning changes depending on the preposition that you use.

And now, as usually, we encourage you to practice the acquired knowledge.  Watch the video without audio and observe all the details of the scene.

Now answer these questions. You should use your imagination…

  1.  ¿Adónde van?
  2. ¿De dónde vienen?
  3. ¿Por dónde van?
  4. ¿En qué medio de transporte van?
  5. ¿Adónde llegan?

Try to use the correct preposition with each verb. Write down your answers and then check them using the verbs-preposition scheme that you can download here.

We’re sure that you have done it quite well. Now you can watch the video with audio – that’s a bit funnier.
